NEW WEBSITE

The Board of the Research Committee on Sociolinguistics (RC25 of the International Sociological Association) is pleased to announce the launch of its new website. Please visit us at:

http://staff.hum.ku.dk/smo/smo2/rc25-home.htm

RC25 is a worldwide, multilingual and multidisciplinary community, whose members work together to explore the areas of common interest within the broadest definition of sociolinguistics. We are fully aware of the theoretical and methodological issues which separate the various disciplines within which we work, but we find richness in the diversity of perspectives.

Our objectives are:

  • a.. To provide an international forum for researchers working on issues of language and society, irrespective of their theoretical and methodological approach
  • b.. To circulate information about advances in sociolinguistics, whether in sociology or in other disciplines, through the creation of a clearinghouse of information located on the RC25 website; and
  • c.. To promote cooperation and collaboration among researchers worldwide, both through the organization of conferences and the posting of notices by scholars seeking research partners.

One way we will be working towards our objectives is through our website. There you will find information there on how to join our Research Committee, the services we offer to members, and a portion of our first electronic newsletter (you can gain access to the entire newsletter if you join RC25). We have already started compiling information on conferences and other events, publications, book reviews, on-line corpora, research projects, and such for our online information clearinghouse and will be counting on our members to help keep us informed of activities worldwide.

We hope you will take the time to look at our website. If your interests complement ours, we look forward to hearing from you.
