Bentley College Assistant Professor in Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Bentley College invites candidates to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position beginning September 2006. Candidates should have scholarly/teaching interests in ethnomethodology, ethnographic studies of workplace practices, and practice as a foundation for intelligibility. The position supports departmental courses and research projects in workplace studies and communities of practice.

Candidates will be expected to collaborate with business and arts and sciences faculty on a variety of college wide initiatives, including scholarship and interdisciplinary teaching. The applicant should have completed, or be near completion of, a doctorate degree and should demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly research and publication, as well as evidence of a strong record of teaching ability. Exceptional applicants at a higher rank will be considered.

The successful candidate will be invited to participate in a number of ongoing workplace studies projects involving collaboration between the Sociology Department and faculty in other departments. Such projects include research on enterprise resource planning systems, globally-distributed collaborative work, and the use of technology in medical settings, as well as possible related future projects. The Sociology Department also plays an active role in the new Liberal Studies Major, contributing course support to several of its interdisciplinary concentrations.
